Alan Brotherston (Cornet), Tony Goddard (Cornet), Derek Lucas (Tenor Horn) and Colin Cranson on Euphonum comprised the quartet.

The quartet competed in the 33rd Annual Brass Quartet Championships of Great Britain in Oxford which was organised by the Morris Concert Band.  The Fodens quartet played “Alla Burlesca” by Gilbert Vinter where they were competing against 21 entries.

Fodens were placed first and Alan Brotherston won the Richard Crouch trophy for the best instrumentalist in the competition and the R.A. Bishop Challenge Trophy for the highest placed cornet in the Preliminary solo championships.
